Ari, as a Dalston resident and no longer the VOR you used to be, you must hang out in all the good places..? Haha. The Voice of Reason. It’s been a while since I’ve heard that! There’s few good spots in the neighbourhood. I like the Ridley Road Market Bar. It’s pretty lo-fi but there’s always an interesting mix of people and music. And they serve one of my favourite drinks – Tequila with fresh grapefruit (from the market of course). www.facebook.com/ridleyroad Voodoo Ray’s is a good place to start or end a night. It’s a pizza joint on Kingsland Road serving US style slices, beers and frozen margheritas. Good music, too.dalstonsuperstore.com/features/voodoo-rays How come youre coming to play to l’Arbre à Casseroles in France? A : It’s all thanks to Cam a friend of mine, she told me about the party when she was visiting London last year. I love the concept and haven’t heard of anything like this before so really happy to be able to make it over for the first birthday, too. We tried to arrange some dates before but couldn’t make it happen. Third time lucky =). J : Camille & Nico kindly invited us over and we like hanging out in the woods at night. Music wise, what does your music library look like, what are your current 3 favorite albums? A : It looks like a mess! I’ve got 100s records which used to be well ordered but are now all over the place since I’ve moved home . There’s lots of house music from mid 90s to 2005 or so. MAW, Strictly Rhythm, DFA. It’s a bit like a lucky dip now. I spent many teenage years listening to Nirvana, Sonic Youth and Pavement before getting into electronic music. Now it’s more like Radiohead, Deerhunter, LCD, Grizzly Bear. A little less teen-angsty I guess! 3 current favourites? Liars – WIXIW, that new Thom Yorke project Atoms for Peace and Lucifer by Peaking Lights J : Smaller than it was before. I had too many records and not enough room so either the furniture or records had to go and I’m afraid the furniture won, I’ve probably still got too many records though. I’ve been collecting records for some time now so my library has changed along with my appetite over the years. There’s some soundtracks & library music, psyche, kraut rock, afrobeat, funk, reggae, electronic music and some things in-between. I’ve been fond of 7’s recently and the last one I bought in France, it’s a crazy 70’s afro-disco thing called ‘Shitan Disco’. I’ve been revisiting some jazz and an album by Ramsey Lewis called Maiden Voyage. Light In The Attic records have re-issued an album by Jim Sulivan called U.F.O that I’ve been enjoying, kind of psychedelic folk.
